Coastal Men's Golf Finishes 6th at East Carolina
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team posted a final round 317 and finished in sixth place with a 54-hole total of 910 in the East Carolina Intercollegiate, played at the par 72, 6,708-yard Brook Valley Country Club.
West Virginia rallied from third place and won with a final round 296 and won by four strokes over host East Carolina (899) and Western Kentucky (899). Maryland (900) was fourth, followed by Florida Gul Coast (904).
Luis Ruiz led the Chanticleers as he tied for 14th (72-76-78=226). The sophomore was 3-over at the turn, posting four bogeys and a birdie. He finished his round with pars on eight of his last 10 holes to shoot his 6-over 78. Freshman States Fort matched the 78 Ruiz posted to tie for the best round of the day by CCU. Fort tied for 48th overall with round of 75-82-78 for his 235.
Thadd Obecny II recorded his first career top 20 finish as he tied for 17th with a 54-hole total of 227 (74-74-79).
Alfredo Ruiz (74-75-82) and Ryan Carpenter (71-77-83) tied for 36th with a three-round score of 231. Olle Widegren, working his way back into the lineup after an injury, tied for 22nd playing as an individual. The senior had rounds of 75-75-78 for a total of 228.
Coastal Carolina will conclude the 2016-17 regular season April 10-11 at the Gary Koch Invitational, hosted by Kentucky and Auburn at the Gaston (N.C.) Country Club.
