Coastal Men's Golf Tied for 1st after 36 Holes at ECU
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's men's golf team, as well as host East Carolina, shot a 593 over 36 holes Monday to tie for first at the East Carolina Intercollegiate, played at the par 72, 6,708-yard Brook Valley Country Club.
The Chanticleers, with three individuals tied for fifth, posted an opening-round 291, six shots ahead of the field, and shot a 302 in the afternoon session while the Pirates posted a 296 in the second round to see a tie after two rounds.
The final 18 holes are scheduled to be played Tuesday.
Coastal and East Carolina are 17-over par after two rounds and lead the 11-team field by four strokes over Maryland (597), followed by West Virginia (599) and Old Dominion (602).
Luis Ruiz, Thadd Obecny II and Ryan Carpenter are each tied for fifth, shooting a 4-over 148. ECU's Tim Conover and Bennett Wisner (Loyola) are tied for first 143) while Jack Musgrave (Georgetown) and Justin Feldman (Maryland) are tied for third (147).
Ruiz carded an opening-round, even par 72 thanks to two birdies and two bogeys. In the afternoon session, the senior had a 76. Obecny had consecutive rounds of 74 for his 148. Carpenter posted CCU's low score of the day, carding a 1-under 71 as he had six birdies, three bogeys and a double. The senior turned in a 77 in round two for his 148.
Alfredo Ruiz, who had eight birdies on Monday, is tied for 11th, one stroke behind his three teammates, as he recorded rounds of 74-75 for a 36-hole score of 149.
Olle Widegren, playing as an individual, is tied for 19th after shooting a pair of 75's for a two-round total of 150. States Fort is tied for 55th as the freshman posted rounds of 75-82 for a 13-over 157.
