Linger Longer Invitational Final Results
GREENSBORO, Ga. - Coastal Carolina continued to improve, shooting 292 on Tuesday after rounds of 300 and 298 the first two days, but could not move up, finishing ninth with a 54-hole total of 890 at the annual Linger Longer Invitational, played at Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation.
Alabama, ranked fourth nationally by Golfstat, won the event with an 18-under par score of 846, beating second-place Chattanooga by 18 strokes.
Individually for Coastal, freshman Roberto Ballesteros led the way. After an opening round 76, he shot 74-73 on Monday and Tuesday to finish tied for 28th with a three-day score of 223. Ballesteros turned in five birdies and six bogeys, including one on the final hole, for his one-over 73 Tuesday.
Tripp McAllister was steady on Tuesday, getting 13 pars with a birie, three bogeys and a double bogey to shoot 76. The redshirt junior tied for 32nd overall with a 54-hole total of 224. Sebastian Soderberg struggled on Monday, but roared back on Tuesday to post a two-under par round of 70. The sophomore had two birdies and two bogeys on the first nine. After birdie on #11, Soderberg bogeyed #13, However, he carded back-to-back birdies on #15 and #16 and finished with a pair of pars for his two-under round. Overall, Soderberg tied for 40th with a 54-hole score of 226.
Rounding out Coastal's scoring was Charlie Winegardner and Steve Delmar. Winegardner recorded an 80 on Tuesday and finished tied or 58th with a three-round total of 230. Delmar finished 62nd with a score of 232. The senior battled back from an opening-round 85 to shoot 74-73 over the final two days. On Tuesday, Delmar led the team with six birdies, including one on the final hole.
Also playing at the Linger Longer was junior Drew Ernst, competing as an individual. Ernst had two birdies and one bogey on each nine Tuesday to shoot two-under 70. After an opening-round 77, he shot 79 Monday and finished with a three-day total of 226 to tie for 40th.
Coastal Carolina will return to action this weekend (April 2-3) at Augusta State's Administaff Invitaitonal, played at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
