TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team had four players shoot under par and carded a team score of eight-under par 280 to stand in third place in the 11-team Seminole Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course.
Coastal, ranked 50th in the nation, has four players among the top 15 individually and the 280 team score marks the squad's lowest round for the season. Sophomores Ben Wheeler and Andrew Dorn each carded rounds of 69 to tie for sixth, while Sebastian Soderberg and Roberto Ballesteros each shot 71 to tie for 13th.
Host and 17th Florida State leads the field, shooting an 11-under par 277. Mississippi State, ranked 36th nationally, is one stroke off the lead with a 278. South Florida is two strokes behind Coastal for fourth place, followed by Ohio State and #49 North Carolina.
Wheeler was 4-under through 10 holes before suffering his first birdie on the par 4 11th hole. He got back to 4-under with a birdie on the par 5 16th hole, but posted a bogey on the 17th hole for his 69. Dorn also had five birdies and two bogeys en route to his career-low 69. He was 1-under through 13 holes before birdies on holes 14 and 16. He finished with a bogey on hole 17 only to bounce back with a birdie on his final hole.
Soderberg was steady through his round, posting 16 pars, two birdies and a bogey. Ballesteros had three birdies and two bogeys for his 71.
The tournament will resume with 18 holes Saturday and conclude with 18 holes Sunday.
