Chants Tied For Second After Day 1 Of The Hackler Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team is tied for second place after day one of the annual General Hackler Championship held at TPC of Myrtle Beach. 

The Chanticleers (+18) ended 36 holes of play tied for second with Tennessee (+18) 11 strokes behind overall leader Virginia (+7).  Auburn and the defending NCAA Champion, Augusta State, finished tied for fourth at 21 strokes over par.

Lamar’s Kevin Hesbois concluded the day on top of the leader board after firing off a four under par 140.  Hesbois also shot a Hackler Championship record tying 65 on his second round.  He ties Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State, who fired his Hackler Championship record setting round in the second round of the 2007 tournament, as the only two individuals to shoot a seven under on a single round.

Leading the Chants on the day was Sebastian Soderberg who fired off identical rounds of 71 to finish tied for second overall at two under par.  Amory Davis of Virginia also finished two under par followed by Augusta State’s Henrik Norlander and East Tennessee State’s Spencer Lawson at one under.  Tennessee’s Robin Wingardh and Pepperdine’s Josh Anderson finished even on the day to round out the top six on the individual leader board.

Tripp McAllister is tied for 15th at four over after shooting two rounds of 74.  Drew Ernst shot a 73 on the first 18 and 81 on the second 18 to end the day tied for 40th at 10 over par.  Charlie Winegardner and Roberto Ballesteros rounded out the Chants team scoring with 36 hole totals of 155 (81-74) and 157 (77-80), respectively. 

Conner Pratt and Steve Delmar, competing in the Championship as individuals, are sitting in 33rd and 54th, respectively.  Pratt used rounds of 76 and 79 to come in 11 over while Delmar carded rounds of 79 and 78 to finish 13 over par.   

The Chants will tee off on the final 18 holes of the 2011 General Hackler Championship at 8 a.m. on Monday.
