PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot 300 in round two and its two-round total of 591 has the Chanticleers tied for ninth at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational, played at the par 72, 6,988-yard Sawgrass Country Club.
Coastal, ranked 48th, is one of 11 teams in the 15-team field to be ranked among the nation's top 50. While the Chants dropped five spots in the standings, they are only six shots out of third place. Leading the field is #25 North Florida (559), followed by #11 Duke (571) and #45 UCF (585). Four teams, #14 Arkansas, #33 North Texas, #7 Florida and #12 LSU are tied for fourth while #38 Tulsa is eighth and Jacksonville is tied with Coastal for ninth.
Sebastian Soderberg continues to lead the Chanticleers, shooting a 2-over par 74 Monday. His two-day total of 143 (68-74) puts the senior in a tie for seventh. Soderberg had a tough start in round two, posting a 4-over 40 on the front nine, but rallied to birdie holes 11, 12 and 16 before a bogey on the final hole for his 74.
Ben Wheeler also shot a 74 Monday with three bogeys and a birdie. His two-day total of 150 (76-74) places the sophomore in a tie for 43rd. Andrew Dorn is also tied for 43rd with a two-day 150. The sophomore has turned in back-to-back rounds of 75.
The John Hayt Collegiate Invitational will conclude with 18 final holes Tuesday.
