Joe Moglia 1 of 5 Finalists for Liberty Mutual FCS Coach of the Year Award
Dec. 10, 2013
BOSTON - For the second time in as many seasons, Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia is one of five finalists for the Liberty Mutual FCS Coach of the Year Award. Moglia is joined on the final ballot by Craig Bohl, North Dakota State; Mick Delaney, Montana; Joe Moorhead, Fordham; and Ron Roberts, Southeastern Louisiana.
In his second season at the helm of the Chanticleers, Moglia has led the program to unprecedented heights, including a NCAA Division I Football Championship third round appearance, a 9-0 start to the season and a program-high ranking of third in the FCS Coaches Poll for three weeks during the regular season.
If Coach Moglia were to receive the prestigious honor to be presented Jan. 6 prior to the BCS Championship game, $50,000 will be donated on behalf of Liberty Mutual to support the charities of his choice and a $20,000 grant will be given to the Coastal Carolina Alumni Association (Official Facebook Page - Official Twitter Page) for academic scholarships.
Also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award - presented annually to the top head coach in the NCAA Division I FCS by The Sports Network - Moglia reached the Liberty Mutual final based on an objective scoring model endorsed by the College Football Hall of Fame, incorporating such criteria as wins, team penalties, sportsmanship, academic performance by the student-athletes, and charitable commitments in their community and beyond. To qualify for the scoring model, each coach needed to finish among the top 15 in fan voting in his division from September 24 until December 3.
Beginning today (Dec. 10) through December 22, fans can vote daily at CoachoftheYear.com or Facebook.com/LMCoachoftheYear. Chanticleer fans have a voice in the final outcome, with 20 percent of each finalist's ultimate standing dependent on fan votes. In addition, each vote during this period will serve as an official entry into the "Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Fan Experience Sweepstakes," awarding one lucky fan tickets and airfare for two to the 2014 regular season college football game of their choice. The sweepstakes winner will be chosen by a random drawing on December 23.
As part of Liberty Mutual's partnership with the National Football Foundation, a selection committee of more than 50 College Football Hall of Fame players and coaches as well as national college football media will evaluate the coaches based on their responsibility, integrity and on-field success to help determine the four coaching winners from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), FCS, Division II and Division III. Winners are ultimately determined using the following voting weight: Fans 20 percent, College Football Hall of Fame 55 percent, and Media 25 percent.
As it was in the preliminary round, fans' votes are tabulated exclusively through Facebook. To vote for Coach Moglia, visit CoachoftheYear.com, and submit your vote on Facebook at Facebook.com/LMCoachoftheYear.
