BOSTON - After leading the Chanticleer football program to a Big South championship and the program’s first appearance in the second round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship, Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia has been named one of five finalists for the Liberty Mutual FCS Coach of the Year Award (coachoftheyear). The remaining finalists are Rob Ash, Montana State; Willie Fritz, Sam Houston State; Jeff Monken, Georgia Southern; and Danny Rocco, Richmond.
If Coach Moglia were to receive the prestigious honor to be presented Jan. 7 prior to the BCS Championship game, $50,000 will be donated on behalf of Liberty Mutual to support the charities of his choice and a $20,000 grant will be given to the Coastal Carolina Alumni Association (Official Facebook Page - Official Twitter Page) for academic scholarships.
Also one of 20 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award – presented annually to the top head coach in the NCAA Division I FCS by The Sports Network – Moglia reached the Liberty Mutual final based on fan votes via Twitter that placed him among the final 15. Finalists were additionally determined based on an evaluation through an objective scoring model endorsed by the College Football Hall of Fame that includes a series of on- and off-field criteria, including wins, team penalties, sportsmanship, academic performance by the student-athletes, and charitable commitments in their communities and beyond.
As part of Liberty Mutual’s partnership with the National Football Foundation, a selection committee of more than 50 College Football Hall of Fame players and coaches as well as national college football media will evaluate the coaches based on their responsibility, integrity and on-field success to help determine the four coaching winners from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), FCS, Division II and Division III. Winners are ultimately determined using the following voting weight: Fans 20 percent, College Football Hall of Fame 55 percent, and Media 25 percent.
As it was in the preliminary round, fans’ votes are tabulated exclusively through Twitter. To vote for Coach Moglia, tweet the following post each day to cast your vote:
