Football's Norman Named The Sports Network National Defensive Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Coastal Carolina defensive back Marrio Norman (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood) has been honored as The Sports Network National Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the publication earlier today (Nov. 18).
Norman, also the Big South Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, helped the Chanticleers defense limit Charleston Southern to just 111 total yards in the second half and zero points, while recording five tackles (four solo), 0.5 tackles for loss (1 yard), three pass break-ups and a key fourth quarter interception when he picked off Kenny Harpers halfback option pass and returned it 58 yards to set up Coastals decisive touchdown in the win. Two of his pass break-ups ended drives and a third forced a fourth-down attempt in the fourth quarter for CSU that came up short. The four passes defended are a season-high for the Chanticleers.
The Chanticleers open their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championships, Sat., Nov. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at No. 1 Appalachian State. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
