Simpkins Named Big South Football Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time
CHARLOTTE, NC- Coastal Carolina University's
Maurice Simpkins (Leesville, S.C.-Batesburg-Leesville) was named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, Nov. 3. This is the second time this season that Simpkins has earned the award, as he also received it for his play in the inaugural game against Newberry.
The sophomore linebacker had a team season-high 15 tackles in Coastals 19-10 loss to VMI on Saturday. Simpkins had nine solo tackles, three tackles for loss for 13 yards, including one sack, one pass breakup and forced a fumble that led to Coastals only touchdown of the game. Simpkins continues to lead the Chants in tackles, currently with 76.
This is the sixth weekly football honor that the Chanticleers have earned this season. Coastal is back on the field, Sat., Nov. 8, traveling to Davidson for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
