Football's Teal Named Big South Defensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina defensive back Quinton Teal (Bennettsville, S.C./Marlboro County) has been named the Big South football New Balance Defensive Player of the Week for games played during Week Nine (Oct. 28) of the 2006 season, it was announced today by the Conference office. This is the second time this season that Teal has garnered the honor, as he was also given the award on Sept. 25 for his play in the home win over South Carolina State.

Teal recorded a career-high 13 tackles in the 28-26 home win over Liberty.  He had one tackle for loss, but his biggest play may have been an interception on Liberty’s opening drive of the game, where he intercepted a pass in the end zone to thwart the Flames’ scoring opportunity on first-and-goal.  Teal is the Big South’s all-time interception leader with 16.

Coastal remains home to host Savannah State next weekend, Nov. 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
