CCU's Quinn Backus Adds National Honor

CONWAY - After earning Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season earlier Monday, Quinn Backus was additionally named one of five College Sporting News All-Stars in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
Backus joined Cornell quarterback Jeff Mathews, South Dakota State quarterback Austin Sumner, Portland State linebacker Ian Sluss and Tennessee State kicker Jamin Godrey.
Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia and "Voice of the Chanticleers" Matt Hogue will discuss Backus' performance, recap the Liberty game and preview this Saturday's game at Gardner-Webb at tonight's (Monday, Oct. 29) Chanticleer Call-In. Versus Liberty, Backus tallied a career-high 15 tackles, adding 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and his first career interception. He headlined a defense that held Liberty to just 86 yards rushing - 100 yards below the Flames' season average.
This marks the second time this season a Coastal player has been named a National Player of the Week. Dontavais Johnson received numerous national weekly honors after he intercepted three passes versus North Carolina A&T in the season opener.
