Evan Rabon Gets Sun Belt Honor
Coastal Carolina junior punter/kicker Evan Rabon was voted the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Rabon, who punts left footed and kicks right footed, averaged 54.7 yards on three punts and made all three field goal attempts, including a 49-yarder to give CCU a lead going into halftime.
Rabon set the school record with a 65-yard punt at Appalachian State. The boot broke his own mark of 59 yards set at ULM earlier this season. Overall, his three punts in the game went for 65, 51 and 48 yards for an average of 54.7.
Rabon was also 3-for-3 in field goals, making a 49-yarder at the end of second quarter to give CCU 19-17 lead at halftime. He additionally made a 24-yard field goal to start the third quarter for a 22-17 CCU lead.
Rabon is on pace to shatter the CCU single-season record for punting average. Through seven games, Rabon is averaging 43.4 yards per punt with the current CCU record for a season being 39.2 yards per punt, set by Austin Cain in 2014. Rabon has had at least one 50-yard punt in five straight games, including three games with two punts going at least 50 yards.
Coastal will host Texas State this Saturday (Oct. 28) at 6 pm. The contest will be the culmination of Homecoming activities in the Coastal Carolina University community for the week.
