Coastal Football Moves to 4th in Coaches Poll; 6th in Sports Network

According to Two Websites, CCU has 2nd-Best RPI among FCS Programs

CONWAY - Being one of five undefeated teams in the NCAA FCS, the 6-0 Coastal Carolina football team continued to climb in the national polls, jumping two spots to fourth in the FCS Coaches Poll and two spots to sixth in The Sports Network Poll.

Under the direction of second year head coach Joe Moglia, Coastal has been a consensus top 10 team for three consecutive weeks and has established school and Big South records for the highest rankings. Coastal is the only Big South member to be a consensus top 10 team for three weeks, which the program accomplished in 2005 as well. Last season, Stony Brook was ranked as high as sixth in the Sports Network Poll and eighth in the Coaches Poll on Nov. 5, 2012, which was the highest a Big South member had been ranked until Coastal's feat this week.

According to realtimerpi.com, which combines both FBS and FCS programs, The Chanticleers are 87th out of 252 programs, but have the second-best RPI behind two-time defending FCS champion North Dakota State (76th).

Coastal also possesses the second-best RPI in the FCS according to Warren Nolan.The Chanticleers have an RPI of 107.95 trail Harvard (114.32), but are ahead of North Dakota State (105.72) and Fordham (105.38). In addition, Warren Nolan rates CCU's strength of schedule at 36th thanks to wins over Hampton (SOS of 30th), Gardner-Webb (SOS 12th), Eastern Kentucky (SOS 10th) and South Carolina State (SOS of 6th).

Coastal Carolina has gotten off to its best start in school history thanks to ranking among the NCAA FCS top 30 in numerous categories, including:
• 2nd Red Zone Offense - 97.1 percent
• 2nd in 3rd Down Conversion Offense - 54.7 percent
• 5th in Rushing Offense - 272.5 ypg
• 5th in Scoring Offense - 43.0 ppg
• 7th in Red Zone Defense - 66.7 percent
• 11th in Total Offense - 486.2 ypg
• 17th in Offensive First Downs - 152 total
• 18th in Fewest Sacks Allowed - 1.0 per game
• 18th in Pass Efficiency Offense - 146.68 rating
• 28th in Pass Efficiency Defense - 114.85 rating
• 29th in Scoring Defense - 22.0 ppg
• 30th in Turnover Margin - +0.5
