Coastal in Big South Openers (7-2)
Coastal Carolina opened its 2012 schedule with five non-conference games, meaning it will only have Big South games the rest of the way. The Chants open Big South play with Stony Brook this weekend. Coastal is 7-2 when playing its first conference foe of the season with the losses coming from Gardner-Webb in 2003 and #20 Liberty in 2008. Of their nine conference openers, six have come in Brooks Stadium and the Chants are 4-2 in such games.

Coming off the Bye (8-1)
Coastal Carolina is an impressive 8-1 when coming off the bye week in its first nine years. The lone loss was a 27-17 setback at Furman in 2007.

CCU Looking to Avoid First
Coastal's tough schedule has led to a three-game losing streak for the fourth time in school history. The Chanticleers are looking to avoid their first four-game losing streak in program history.

No Rest for the Weary
Even though Coastal had a bye last Saturday, Coastal continues its "murderers' row" portion of the schedule. CCU opened the run winning at traditional power Furman, followed by a loss to nationally-ranked Eastern Kentucky, a 10-point loss at NCAA FBS program Toledo and a loss at #16 Appalachian State. This week, the Chants host nationally-ranked Stony Brook, who marks Coastal's third nationally-ranked opponent in 2012.

CCU Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend
Coastal Carolina will induct Mike Costanzo (baseball), Meagen Johnson (softball), Anne Marie Moutsinga (cross country/track), Maurice Simpkins (football) and Quinton Teal(football) into its George F. "Buddy" Sasser Athletics Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be Oct. 12 and the new inductees will also be recognized the following day when the Chanticleer football team hosts Stony Brook.

Two-time Ryder Cup member Dustin Johnson was voted as a member of the Class of 2012. However, due to prior commitments, he will not be able to attend and be honored at a future induction ceremony.

Olympian Amber Campbell Will Also Be Honored
Amber Campbell, a 2009 CCU Sasser Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, will be honored during the Coastal Carolina-Stony Brook contest. Campbell is a two-time USA Olympic team member (2008 and 2012) and the US national champion in the hammer.

Offensive Showdown
In the first five weeks of the 2012 football season Stony Brook's Miguel Maysonet and Coastal Carolina's Aramis Hillarytook turns in being named the Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week. Maysonet, the preseason conference Player of the Year pick, was honored in weeks one, three and five while Hillary claimed the honor in weeks two and four.

Maysonet leads the Big South in rushing and all-purpose yards, ranking fourth nationally in rushing. Hillary leads the league in total offense and passing yards per game.
