Simpson reeled in a team-high six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. The wide receiver caught a 45-yard strike on the dead run from Tyler Thigpen late in the second quarter. The touchdown catch was the longest pass play in CCU history and also the first-ever touchdown pass for Coastal at home. In addition, his 89 receiving yards are the second most in a single game in CCU history.
In the first two games of the season, Simpson leads the team with 10 catches for 148 yards and three touchdowns. His 10 catches currently rank fifth on CCU's single season chart, while the 148 yards are good for fourth.
The Chanticleers return to the field, Sat., Sept. 18, taking to the road to take on the Newberry Indians for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
