Coastal Carolina Universityfootball freshman Jerome Simpson (Reidsville, N.C./Reidsville) was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for his play at Morehead State, Sept. 4.In his first collegiate game, Simpson made a big impact in Coastal avenging last years loss to Morehead State with a 28-7 win on MSUs home field. The wide receiver caught four passes for 59 yards, leading all receivers, and a pair of touchdowns. Simpson reeled in a 16-yard pass from Tyler Thigpen to put CCU up 14-0 in the second quarter and then sealed the victory with a leaping 29-yard reception in the front corner of the end zone to put CCU back up 21 points late in the third quarter. The two touchdown catches in one game is the first time that has happened in Coastals brief football history.
The Chanticleers return to the field, Sat., Sept. 11, for their home opener at Brooks Stadium, hosting the Davidson Wildcats for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
