Football To Be Televised

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University announced that the school's inaugural football program will be televised three times during the 2003 season. CCU will be on The Football Network for three games, including one as part of the Big South Conference's television package.

The first-ever game in Coastal Carolina history, Saturday, Sept. 6, against Newberry will be broadcast locally on WWMB-TV UPN-21 in Florence and Myrtle Beach and on WMMP-TV UPN-35 in Charleston, starting at 7 p.m. Bob Rathbun, the television play-by-play voice of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and long-time pro and college sports broadcaster, will handle the play-by-play duties. Bob Chmiel, a former college football coach and administrator at Michigan, Notre Dame and Northwestern, while the sideline reporting will be done by Dan Jansen, the 1994 Olympic gold medalist in speedskating who has been in sports broadcasting since that time. Rathbun has even more ties to the game, as he is a 1976 graduate of Catawba College, the school that David Bennett coached at previous to Coastal.

The other two games to be broadcast live in the Myrtle Beach area are the home game with Charleston (WV) on Oct. 11 and the season-ending game at Big South-rival Charleston Southern on Nov. 22. All three games are scheduled to be carried on UPN-21 and UPN-35.
