CONWAY, SC -- Coastal Carolina's football team had a two-hour workout, Sat., Aug. 27, the final weekend practice prior to the season opener. The Chanticleers start their 2005 campaign at Southern Conference foe Elon, Sat., Sept 3 at 6 p.m.
Coastal had a scaled-down regular practice, followed by a walk-through in the stadium. During the stadium time, the Chants worked on various special situations that are outside the normal realm of play, both on offense and on special teams. But head coach David Bennett was overall pleased with the team's workouts the last several days, with the offense impressing this morning.
"The offense looked a lot better today," Bennett said. "When we did our seven-on-seven drill going at third down and seven to go, our offense converted 10 out of 12 times, with four going for 20 yards or more. They then followed it up going nine for 12 in 11-on-11 drills, so this was, by far, the best day we have had on the passing game.
"Yesterday, the defense was better. Every football team in American is striving to find that consistency, so we are continuing to work to find that on both sides of the ball. Then we came over to the stadium and worked on our specialty situtations review. We have had the list for a very long time and work on it every year to make sure we are prepared for something out of the ordinary."
