CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina University football team continued preparations for the upcoming 2008 season Thursday Aug. 14 with a morning session at 11 a.m. as well as a night session at 7 p.m.
In the morning session, the team focused on positional drills as well as goal like 11 vs. 11 drills.
The night session found much of the same, as the practice opened up with stretching a few minutes before 7. Positional drills were next on the docket, with quarterbacks working passing skeleton drills, and lineman working in "trench battle" drills. The middle periods of the practice focused on the kickoff and kick return team, as well as PAT and field goal fake plays. The defense played well in 11 vs. 11 drills, holding down the offense in several goal line situations.
“We played with a lot of tempo tonight,” Head Coach David Bennett commented. “The defense held on a couple series, but faltered later on,” Bennett said of the defensive unit that performed well overall, but gave up a touchdown to end practice. “When you’re having a good day like the defense did, you have to keep the offense down on several occasions and be more consistent.”
Friday's practice is slated for 3 p.m. at Fowler Field, while the squad's third scrimmage of the preseason will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. at Brooks Stadium.
