The Coastal Carolina University football team practiced Monday, August 11 at Fowler Field in Conway, S.C. The Chanticleers went twice on Monday, the second two-a-day practice of the season.
In the evening session, the Chanticleers went through position drills, one-on-one, seven-on-seven’s and 11-on-11’s. The practice was spirited, but a couple of skirmishes happened after the whistle in the 11-on-11 session.
“They had a good intensity, but they have to learn how to practice when you hear the thud,” Coastal Carolina Head Coach David Bennett said. “We have to get better. Thank goodness we have a little more time to prepare for Penn State.”
Bennett commented on the recent success of the Chanticleer football alumni. Tyler Thigpen, Quinton Teal and Mike Tolbert each had a successful preseason opener, while Jerome Simpson plays tonight on ESPN.
“I’m very proud of them,” Bennett said. “It’s pretty neat. You’ve got two guys in the first class, two guys in the second class and you had (Rodney) Burgess, who would have been with the Giants if he didn’t get hurt. We’re very proud, that’s why we're going to have a team meeting and then go watch Jerome.”
Coastal will have one practice Tuesday, August 12 at 3:30 p.m.
