The Coastal Carolina University football team completed its fifth practice Tuesday afternoon as the Chanticleers went an hour and 15 minutes due to the excessive heat in the Conway area. Coastal wore full pads for the first time in practice this season and are now through with its five-day acclimatization period.
Coastal started the practice with the entire offensive unit working through specific plays. Soon after, every position split up for drills. The practice only went six periods, and there was a break in the middle in which the Chants tried to stay cool by eating popsicles.
"We cut it back a little bit because of the heat," Coastal head coach David Bennett said. "We gave them a popsicle break halfway into practice. The offfensive line worked hard today. We'll be alright tomorrow morning. We go at 6:50 in the morning so we ought to be full strength.
"We were going to hit a little today, but we postponed it until tomorrow morning because of the intensity and the heat index."
Coastal will begin its first two-a-day Wednesday, August 8 at 6:50 a.m. Coastal will come back for its second practice starting at 6:45 p.m.
