CONWAY - After having the first practice of 2011 preseason camp was postponed due to inclement weather, the Coastal Carolina football squad managed to have its first session Friday despite more inclement weather, using both the new baseball/softball hitting facility and Kimbel Arena.

Similar to Thursday, the team made it out to the practice field but was called back inside Adkins Field House due to an impending thunderstorm.

"Today, we will use plan B and probably C," said head coach David Bennett when the team was called off the practice field.

Those plans included the whole team going to the hitting facility to work on special teams for approximately 20 minutes. Afterwards, the offense moved to Kimbel Arena for individual drills and work on the running game, while the defense stayed in the hitting facility for individual drills. After 30 minutes, the units swapped venues with the defense working on some team drills in Kimbel, while the offense worked on passing drills. The session ended with a conditioning period.

"We are being taught some patience right now," Bennett said. "We are thankful to the baseball and softball programs for letting us use their wonderful facility tonight. We were able to get more accomplished than I had hoped because you don't realize just how big it is until you are inside. It is over 40 yards wide and 40 yards deep. Right now we are just controlling the things we can control. As I said yesterday, it is great to see this group somewhat disappointed that we have had to make changes. I can only imagine the excitement when we do finally have our first full practice outside."

NOTE: Equipment manager Wilson Beaver said tonight's practice was the second time the football team had practiced on the site of the hitting facility. When the spot had tennis courts, the squad used the courts because of water-logged grass due to a hurricane.
