Football Puts on the Shoulder Pads for the First Time Monday Night

The Coastal Carolina University football team practiced in shoulder pads for the first time during training camp Monday night in a two-hour practice at the Fowler Field.  The practice was the third in preparation for the 2008 season

Position drills started the practice, with the offensive and defensive units meshing towards the end of practice.  The wide receivers and cornerbacks worked together for a couple of periods as well as the running backs with the linebackers.  Special teams also were worked on, as the Chanticleers practiced punts for a period.  Coastal Carolina head coach David Bennett was pleased with the effort, but said the execution needs to get better as training camp goes along.

"We had no consistency today," Bennett said.  "It was a beautiful night to practice, too.  The execution and focus were not there.  We've got a great group of young men, but are they going to be great football players?  It's yet to be seen."

Coastal Carolina will have one practice Tuesday, August 4, at 3:30 p.m.  The first two-a-day practice is Thursday, August 7 with the first scrimmage Saturday, August 9.
