Football Has A Good Second Day of Practice

The Coastal Carolina University football team took to the field for day two of preseason camp Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3. The Chanticleers were blessed with a great day, as the temperature hovered around 87 degrees.

The second day was similar to day one, as the Chants broke down into their positions and reviewed the fundamentals through drills with minimal contact. The coaching staff continued to emphasize footwork and intensity and was pleased with today's effort.

"They showed a lot of enthusiasm, and that's always good to have when you're in camp because the pads are coming, and the two-a-days are coming," Head Coach David Bennett said. The Chanticleers will not be in full pads until the middle of the week, but made the most of practice wearing only helmets the first two days, and will add shoulder pads for the next practice.

"We still had a few mental errors, but at the end of practice, I thought our guys finished hard and finished strong," Bennett said, minutes after the squad ran a few sprints to end the second day of training. Bennett knows there is still work to be done, but is optimistic with the strides players are making both on and off the field.

"It's more than football, and that's what we want," Bennett concluded. "We want these guys, when they are done, to be good husbands, good fathers, and gentlemen, and I think we made a step towards that today."

The Chants will be back on the field for day three of training camp from 7-9 p.m. Mon., Aug 4.
