Coastal Carolina University redshirt-junior tight end David Duran has been named the Department of Athletics Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 2-6.
The Marietta, Ga., native earned a spot on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for the 2009-10 academic year after finishing the year with a grade point average above 3.0 and was named to the Preseason All-Big South offensive team, which was announced Thursday, July 27 at Big South media day.
Last season, Duran earned All-Big South First Team honors and ranked second on the squad in receptions with 19 and receiving yards with 273 to lead the league’s tight ends. He had three catches for a team-high 82 yards in the win over Monmouth and also had six receptions for 88 yards and one score at Towson. Duran recorded the second-most single-season receiving yards by a tight end in school history during the 2009 season.
Duran and the Chanticleers will open up the 2010 season at West Virginia on September 4 at 3:30 p.m.
