Football To Play Clemson in 2009

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina football team has signed a contract to play at Clemson, Sat., Oct. 31, 2009, announced today at a press conference at Brooks Stadium's Hospitality Room. On hand to make the announcement were President David DeCenzo, Athletic Director Warren "Moose" Koegel, Head Coach David Bennett and Board of Trustees Member Dan Moore.

This historic game will be the first for CCU against one of the two in-state Football Bowl Subdivision schools and just the third in its brief history. Coastal heads to Happy Valley to take on Penn State to open the 2008 season and then open the 2009 schedule at the Mid-American Conference's Kent State. It also will be a homecoming of sorts for Bennett, as he was a graduate assistant under Danny Ford with the Tigers from 1984-86.

This will also be the first time that the Tigers have taken on a member of the Big South Conference during their schedule. Clemson has played current member of the league VMI and in-coming member Presbyterian in their history, but that was prior to the sponsorship of football in the Big South Conference. The last time Clemson played either of them was in 1957 when they defeated Presbyterian a home, 66-0, to open the season.
