April 2, 2011
CONWAY, S.C. – Johnnie Houston, Josh Norman and Tre Henderson all had fourth quarter interceptions to lead the Teal team to a 70-53 win over the Black team Saturday afternoon in the Coastal Carolina annual Spring Game from Brooks Stadium.
The Coastal Carolina defense made up the Teal team and the Black team featured the Chanticleer offense.
Trailing 52-51 midway through the fourth quarter, quarterback Aramis Hillary drove the Black team down the field and hit Akeem Wesley on a 27-yard pass to position the Black team deep in Teal team territory.
Houston picked off Hillary on the next play to give the Teal team four points and a 56-51 lead. On the following Black team drive, Norman snagged an interception in the endzone to thwart another Black team scoring drive and put the Teal team ahead 60-51.
The Teal team picked up two more points with a tackle for loss on the ensuing Black team drive before putting the game out of reach when Henderson turned in the third interception of the game for the Teal team.
“Our offense did a good job of coming back today and giving themselves a chance to win the game,” Coastal Carolina head coach David Bennett said. “The defense stepped up and got one pick after another to win the game.
“We have to much more consistent at quarterback for us to be great. We need to be able to drive down the field and score points on a much more consistent level. We did that in spurts today, but we need to be able to do it when we get tired and when we are fatigued.”

Childers also paced the Black team on the ground and through the air. He ended the game with 30 yards rushing on three carries and had two receptions for 69 yards.
