CONWAY - The first spring practice for the defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina Chanticleers was a two hour 10 minute affair on Tuesday evening with the team in shorts and helmets. The practice was one of 15 for the Chants as part of their spring schedule, which culminates on April 13 at 1:30 p.m. with the annual Teal-Black Spring Game at Brooks Stadium.

"I thought our first practice went well," said reigning Big South Coach of the Year Joe Moglia. "Today was what expected from our first practice of the spring.

"It was good to get the guys out on the field and see them work in football situations. We have had some guys make position changes during the offseason and today was the first opportunity we, as a staff, got an opportunity to see them in those new roles."

After starting practice with stretching and warm-ups the team broke off with their individual position coaches. The bulk of the practice was spent in individuals with two special teams segments worked into the practice plan. The offensive and defensive units also spent time in 7-on-7 situations.

The practice closed with the offense facing the defense. Both units looked good at times, but the defense produced two interceptions in the final segment.

Individual position work was key for the five student-athletes who made position changes. Cody Craig, a rising junior, made the move from quarterback to tight end. Also changing positions on the offensive side of the ball was Devin Brown, who made the move from corner to wide receiver. The Chanticleer defensive line saw Clark Krimmer move from linebacker to defensive end and Joe Kaleta transition from offensive line to defensive tackle. LaDarius Hawthornemade the shift from corner to safety and Bucky Kennedy moved to safety full time after splitting part of the 2012 season in both the offensive and defensive backfields.

To ensure all the student-athletes meet their academic and athletic responsibilities, the team will practice each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evening, as well as Saturday afternoon for four weeks.

Season ticket renewals for the 2013 campaign will be sent out at the end of March and new season ticket orders can be made at that time as well. There will be a Select-A-Seat day(s) for season ticket holders who have made their CAF donation and purchased their season tickets by July 12, 2013.
