Football Announces 2007 Schedule

Chants to host six home games and play two NCAA Championship squads

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina will play six games at Brooks Stadium in its fifth season of play, as the Chanticleers’ 2007 football schedule was announced today (Mar. 19). The three-time defending Big South Conference champions welcome back 10 starters and 36 letterwinners from a team that finished 9-3 and 4-0 in the Big South in 2006, earning the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championships. This season, all home games are scheduled to be played at 7 p.m., though the times are subject to change to accomodate television requests.

For the third time in the last four years, the Chanticleers will open the season on the road, playing at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference runner-up Delaware State, Sept. 1. CCU will then return home for back-to-back non-conference contests, hosting Winston-Salem State, Sept. 8, and Georgia Southern of the Southern Conference, Sept. 15. The Chants then return to the road to take on a pair of 2006 NCAA Championship participants, playing at James Madison, Sept. 22, and at Furman, Oct. 6.

Coastal will host Chowan for Family Weekend, Oct. 13, and Presbyterian for Hall of Fame Day, Oct. 20. The Chants will then open Big South action with their third straight home game, taking on VMI for Homecoming, Oct. 27. CCU returns to the road to take on Liberty, Nov. 3., before returning home to host Gardner-Webb for Senior Day, Nov. 10. The regular season will wrap up with a trip down the South Carolina coast for the battle with in-state rival Charleston Southern, Nov. 17.

"I thought last year's schedule would be very tough, and it was, but after losing 36 seniors, this year's could be even tougher," head coach David Bennett said. "Delaware State and Winston-Salem State will both be tough as they look to defeat us after losses to us previously. Then, it will be a real challenge to play Georgia Southern, James Madison and Furman in a row, as those are three of the most established and tradition-rich programs in the nation. Then when we start Big South play, each game will be a battle, as the league has improved every year and I expect this season to be no different. It will be another great opportunity for our young program to grow."

Season tickets for CCU’s 2007 football season will go on sale April 1 and can be purchased over the phone by calling 843-347-TIXX or 1-877-4CHANTS. Coastal Carolina University’s complete 2007 football schedule follows.
