MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University football team held its first scrimmage of the spring at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach due to the threat of inclement weather. The scrimmage had 11 defensive stops on the 14 possessions, including the first six and final three of the day.
The defense stepped up and made stands early, not allowing the offense to find the end zone until the seventh possession of the game. Overall, the offense posted 305 yards of offense on 73 plays (4.2 yards per play), with 46 rushes for 159 yards and two touchdowns and going 12-for-27 for 146 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions through the air. The offense was just 6-of-17 on third down conversions and 2-of-4 on fourth downs.
"It is normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense at this stage of the spring," Head Coach David Bennett said. "The good thing about this was that we saw some intensity and solid competition on the field, but with good sportsmanship between the two sides, for the most part. Now we have a week of spring break and then will get back to work next Sunday as we continue to work in developing these young men as players."
