CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina will play six games at Brooks Stadium in its fourth season of play, as the Chanticleers’ 2006 football schedule was announced today (Feb. 14). The Chants welcome back 19 starters on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball from a team that finished 9-2 and 3-1 in the Big South Conference in 2005, earning a share of their second consecutive conference title.
The Chants will open the 2006 campaign at home, hosting Southern Conference foe Elon, Sept. 2, the first of four opponents from the nationally-renowned league. CCU will then take to the road for two straight games, traveling to Wofford (Sept. 9) and Georgia Southern (Sept. 16). Coastal then returns home to host in-state rival South Carolina State, including Hall of Fame Day activities, Sept. 23, before going on the road to Winston-Salem State on Sept. 30.
Family Weekend at Coastal will be held Oct. 7 in conjuction with CCU's game with Furman, followed by the Big South Conference opener at VMI, Oct. 14. Following the off week, CCU will play three of the last four games at Brooks Stadium, starting with Liberty, Oct. 28. Homecoming will be against Savannah State, Nov. 4., and then the final road game at Gardner-Webb, Nov. 11. CCU will wrap up the 2006 regular season, hosting Big South co-champion Charleston Southern for Senior Day, Nov. 18.
"We’re just like the Jeffersons, 'movin' on up'," head coach David Bennett said. "This schedule has four teams of the SoCon and South Carolina State, which will be a tough test to see where our four-year program has come. What a challenge for our Coastal Carolina family!"
