CONWAY - Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia has announced that Tyrell Blanks (Fort Myers, Fla.) is currently enrolled at the University and will be a part of the Chanticleer football team. Blanks, a 5-10 wide receiver from South Fort Myers HS, will be considered a true freshman for the 2012 season and will be able to participate with the team in all spring activities.
Also, 2011 signee and 2010 South Carolina Coaches Association Class 4A Running Back of the Year DeAngelo Henderson (Summerville, S.C./Summerville HS) has enrolled at Coastal Carolina. Henderson will also be considered a true freshman for the 2012 season and be able to participate in spring activities.
Blanks spent the 2011 Fall semester at Atlanta Sports Academy, catching 16 passes for 332 yards with two touchdowns at the prep school. As a senior at South Fort Myers, he caught 19 passes for 389 yards, averaging an impressive 20.47 yards per catch, with four touchdowns. Blanks helped the Wolfpack to a 12-1 record in 2010, reaching the 2A semifinals. As a junior, he had 20 receptions for 288 yards, an average of 15.5 per catch, with two scores. Blanks was also a track and field standout, earning honorable mention Naples Daily News All-Region as a sprinter. He also anchored a 4x400 relay team that placed second in the Florida 2A State Championship.
The NCAA national signing day for football is Feb. 1.
