Learfield Director's Cup Standings (Through Fall 2013 Season)
CONWAY - For the second consecutive year, the Coastal Carolina Department of Athletics has ended the fall sports season ranked among the top 45 NCAA Division I sports programs in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
After placing 42nd through the fall season last year, Coastal moved to a program-best 40th this year as the football team placed program-best fifth (tied) by reaching the NCAA Division I Championship quarterfinals and, for the second straight year, the men's soccer team reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Championships for a ninth-place (tied) finish.
Overall, Coastal scored 134 total points this fall - best among Big South members - and ranks third among FCS programs behind Georgetown (18th with 216 points - scoring in men's and women's cross country and men's and women's soccer) and Princeton (35th with 156 points - scoring in men's and women's cross country and women's field hockey).
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. For more information on how points are determined, visit HERE.
The Learfield Cup will have two more updates, once after the winter sports season and once after the spring sports season, to determine the final standings.
In addition to the football and men's soccer teams, Coastal had four other teams (baseball, men's golf, women's golf and men's tennis) reach the NCAA Championships last season as the Chanticleers placed a program-best 79th in the 2012-13 final standings.
