CONWAY - Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia has named Mike Gallagher assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Gallagher comes to Coastal Carolina after having worked with Moglia at the Omaha Nighthawks, where he served as quality control for the defense as well as assisting with the defensive line.

"Mike handled our defensive quality control with the Nighthawks," Moglia said. "While I knew of Mike's football knowledge, I came to realize he is one of the most cerebral coaches with whom I have worked. In addition, he has the perfect skill set to be an excellent recruiter and will do an excellent job there. Mike's overall knowledge of the game will allow me to be more flexible in completing this staff. He has the ability to coach any position well which in turn will give me the luxury of bringing in more quality candidates to make this staff the best it can be."

Prior to his one season with the Nighthawks, Gallagher was the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons (2007-10) at Delaware State. In his first season with the Hornets, Gallagher helped Delaware State to its first MEAC title in 16 seasons and first playoff berth in school history.

Gallagher served as an assistant coach at Sussex Central (Del.) High School and helped lead the team to a perfect regular-season record, a conference championship and to the state championship game. He additionally spent time as assistant coach at Salesianum (Del.) School.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Gallagher played football at Ferrum College under Hall of Fame coach Hank Norton. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Ferrum in 1987.
