Postgame Quotes

Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia

Opening Statement:

We knew Eastern Kentucky was a good team. I think it was irrelevant the fact that they were ranked. The reality is we needed to take care of business on our side, focus on what we needed to do and focus only on this game tonight. I thought we did a reasonable job moving the ball. From a defensive perspective they hurt us in the first half, especially in the passing game. In the second half they hurt us with their running game. Going in we were concerned with their running game and we knew we had to shut them down to be effective. I thought in the first half we did a reasonable job with that but they ended up hurting us with it in the second. In terms of special teams, they were good on both sides of the ball. I don’t think either team had an advantage. I think our defense was outmatched but the special teams came out as a draw.

On Defensive Concerns:

I think we have a solid defensive unit but we don’t have much depth. Early in the season, with the heat and humidity, you’ve got to be able to rotate your guys. The solid guys we have are hard workers but some of them are young and they need more experience. But our biggest concern going into the season was our depth.

Eastern Kentucky head coach Dean Hood

Opening Statement:

That’s our brand of ball. If we can run the ball on them and we keep them from running, and then win that turnover battle and play good on special teams. We’ve got the guys to do that. That’s the reason that that’s our brand is because of our personnel. We’ve got the o-line that’s physical and big and the backs that run hard, we’ve got fullbacks and tight ends that block well. And then we’ve got receivers when they stack it up to try to stop the run that can make big plays out on the perimeter.

On the physical play by the defense:

I was really impressed with our guys flying around and hitting. That’s a really good football team with a lot of good skill guys. That quarterback is really good. They got a lot of yards and they were effective, but I thought our guys really hit them and were very physical with them and I thought that really helped us, especially down the stretch.
