CONWAY - Furman vs. Coastal Carolina
September 7, 2013
Conway, S.C. | Brooks Stadium - Benton Field
Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia
Now that you're 2-0 could this be a 10-win team?
"I think we have the ability to be a pretty good team, but we've got to be far more consistent than what we are. I think we have the potential to have a great offense; they couldn't stop us in clutch situations in the game. We're capable of being a great team but we still have to prove that. On defense we came up with some great plays, but we can't be as inconsistent as we were tonight. We're doing great things, but we need to be more consistent on both sides of the ball."
On Furman's last drive, Blackburn's sack seemed to take a lot of wind out of their sails.
"Our offense had been keeping a one to two touchdown lead on them, so that put a lot of pressure on their offense. Frankly, Furman did a good job, they didn't panic. Our defense came in and did a good job of stopping them. Our defense was able to step up and put together a couple big plays at the end. Overall I think our defense did a reasonable job of stopping them in the air, but we could have done better against the run."
Were there any flashbacks from last year's game against Furman?
"It was a similar situation to a year ago, but it was different in the sense that we felt we had control of the game, but we just couldn't stop them as effectively as we needed to. But at the end when we needed to stop them, we were able to mix it up and performed much better than we did a year ago."
Furman head coach Bruce Fowler
Opening statement: "We made some improvements in some areas obviously in the second half. Defensively we got some early stops and we got a late stop when we needed it, and we fought better. We still have a lot of improvement we need to make, but there was some improvement. Offensively, I thought we got some rhythm going and were able to mix it up running the ball and throwing the football. But again, I think we can be crisper and I think our team thinks that way and our staff thinks that way. We had some opportunities that we didn't take advantage of it. We were down there in the red zone early a couple of times and came away with nothing, missed a couple of kicks, and then turned the ball over a couple of times."
