Toccoa Falls Comes to Town Thursday

The Chanticleers will take on Toccoa Falls College Thursday at 7:30 p.m. inside The HTC Center

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina returns to action inside The HTC Center against NCCAA member Toccoa Falls College. The game is part of a doubleheader with the CCU women's basketball team who takes on Converse College at 5 p.m. inside The HTC Center.

The Eagles are under the direction of first-year head coach Jason Mehl. TFC is coming into Thursday's contest with an 11-game losing streak. The Eagles are led by sophomore guard Josh Barrett who is averaging 13.9 points per game. Sophomore forward Derek Westfall, freshman guard Josh Johnson and sophomore forward Billy Aristide are all averaging double-digits in scoring this season. Aristide leads the team on the glass with 7.3 boards per contest. 

Coastal Carolina and Toccoa Falls have never met on the basketball court. The Chants have four new opponents on the schedule this season including Ole Miss, Toccoa Falls, Johnson & Wales and Greensboro College. CCU is 1-1 this year against first time opponents.

Coastal Carolina is 4-4 in games played on Dec. 13 including 3-0 at home. The Chants' last meeting on Dec. 13 was in 2010 at LSU. The Chants won the game 78-69 in overtime marking the third Coastal Carolina overtime game on Dec. 13. CCU went into double-overtime during its first Dec. 13 match-up back in 1975 with a 102-97 victory over Claflin at home. The Chants also went into overtime on Dec. 13 in 2006 on the road at South Carolina State. Coastal fell 81-80 in that match-up.

Coastal Carolina senior guard Kierre Greenwood needs five assists to become the 22nd player in Big South history with 400 career helpers. He would be the third Chanticleer to make the Conference's all-time list, joining Robert Dowdell (561 from 1987-91) and Alvin Green (411 from 2000-05).

The Chants have outrebounded all but one opponent this season. CCU leads the Big South in rebounding margin at +6.1. Coastal has two players ranked in the top-15 in rebounding in the league, 10th-ranked El Hadji Ndieguene and 12th-ranked Michel Enanga.

Coastal Carolina senior guard Anthony Raffa now ranks 11th in the NCAA in scoring. He is averaging 21.1 points per game.
