Men's Basketball's Harris Named Big South Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Coastal Carolina redshirt-senior forward Joseph Harris (Lejeune, N.C.) and High Point sophomore guard Nick Barbour (Danville, Va.) have been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Radford guard Blake Smith (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played the opening weekend of the regular-season, it was announced today by the Conference office.

Harris recorded his 31st career double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds in the Chanticleers’ 70-59 win over SoCon South Division preseason favorite College of Charleston Friday night. Harris went 9-of-17 from the floor, grabbed six of his 17 rebounds on the offensive front, and added four steals, an assist and blocked shot. It was his 13th consecutive double-double, dating back to last season.

Barbour went 10-of-11 from three-point range and finished with a career-high 38 points in leading High Point to a 104-72 victory over UNC Pembroke on Saturday night. He was 13-of-16 overall from the floor, scored 20 points in the first half and 18 in the second, and made nine consecutive three-pointers to close out the game, including all six of his attempts in the second half. His 90.9 three-point percentage is the highest in a single-game in Big South history. Barbour also had two assists, two rebounds and two steals on the night.

Smith scored 17 points and had eight rebounds in his collegiate debut, helping the Highlanders to a 76-65 season-opening win over Navy. He was 7-of-11 shooting, including one three-point bucket, and added three assists, one blocked shot and two steals in 33 minutes of action with no turnovers. Smith also made a halfcourt shot just prior to intermission and had a breakaway dunk with 44 seconds left to put the game away.
