ABOUT AKRON
The University of Akron was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference East Division while Zeke Marshall was named preseason All-MAC. Akron returns eight letterwinners and four starters from last year's squad, led by Marshall, the reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year. UA also returns starters Alex Abreu (Second-Team All-MAC), Chauncey Gilliam and Brian Walsh. The Zips also return a lot of depth in Josh Egner, Nick Harney, Deji Ibitayo and Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell.

THE SERIES
Coastal Carolina and The University of Akron have met just once. The lone match-up took place during the 1986-87 season at Akron with the Zips winning 66-61. The Chants went on to finish that season with a 12-16 overall record while Akron finished with a 21-9 record and advanced to the NIT under former head coach Bob Huggins.

CHASING HISTORY
Head Coach Cliff Ellis needs just one win to become just the second coach in NCAA Division I history to win 100 or more games at four different institutions. Coach Ellis has won 100 or more games at South Alabama (171), Clemson (177) and Auburn (186). He currently has 99 career wins at Coastal. He will join Lefty Driesell who won 100 or more games at Davidson (176), Maryland (348), James Madison (159) and Georgia State (103).

HOME SWEET HOME
Coastal Carolina holds a 28-10 record in home openers dating back to the 1974-75 season. The Chanticleers have won three straight home openers with their last loss coming to Coker College during the 2008-09 season, 80-59.

STARTING OFF RIGHT
The Chanticleers hold a 23-15 season opener record dating back to the 1974-75 season. Under Cliff Ellis Coastal is 4-1 during season openers with wins over Piedmont College, College of Charleston, North Greenville and Covenant College.
