Coastal Opens 2013-14 Season at Akron Friday Night

For the Second Straight Season the Chants Will Open Against the Zips

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team travels to University of Akron Friday evening at 8 p.m. to open the 2013-14 season. The Chants have won four-straight season openers but this will be the first time since 2006 that CCU will open on the road.

Chanticleers Earn Overtime Victory in Inaugural Game in The HTC Center
Senior Anthony Raffa of the Coastal Carolina men's basketball team scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Chanticleers to a 74-70 overtime victory over the visiting Zips of The University of Akron in the inaugural game inside The HTC Center in front of a capacity crowd of 3,278 screaming fans. The victory also marked head coach Cliff Ellis' 100th win on the Coastal sideline which moved him into elite territory as he became just the second coach in Division I history to lead four different programs to 100 or more wins.

Coastal Carolina In Season Openers
• Coastal Carolina is 24-15 all-time in season openers.
• Coastal edged Akron in overtime, 74-70, to open up the 2012-13 season in Conway, S.C.
• Coastal is 13-26 in road openers dating back to the 1974-75 season and 4-11 when opening the season on the road.

• Coastal Carolina is 1-5 all-time against Mid-American Conference opponents.

• The 2013-14 edition of the Coastal Carolina men's basketball team features five international players. CCU has two players from Senegal, one from Montenegro, one from the Bahamas and one from Cameroon. The remaining nine Chanticleers come to Coastal from five different states including North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin.
