Coastal Opens Up Exhibition Season with a 70-63 Victory over U.S. Air-Force All-Stars

CONWAY, S.C. — Redshirt senior Torrey Butler scored a game-high 16 points, while senior Derrick Robinson added 15, as the Coastal Carolina Men's Basketball team defeated the U.S. Air Force All-Stars, 70-63 in an exhibition game Wednesday night in Kimbel Arena.

The Chanticleers got points from nine of 11 players who saw action on the court. Joining Butler and Robinson in double-figures were Mihai Raducanu (12 points) and Alvin Green (11 points). Green also dished out a game high eight assists in the contest.

" Alvin Green really played well for us tonight," said CCU coach Pete Strickland. "He dictated the pace of the game well, and helped create alot of good looks for us." " It was also great to see Mihai and Torrey back on the court tonight. They worked hard to get back from the injuries they suffered last season."

The U.S. Air Force All-Stars were led by Troy Myles who recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Travis Clark also chipped in 13 along with two blocks.

USAF jumped out to a 9-6 lead three minutes into the game, but CCU closed the gap with a 20-9 run over the next ten minutes to take a eight point lead at 26-18. However, USAF would not go away, as they would go on a 12-4 run to tie the Chants at 30-30 at halftime.

CCU retook the lead at 35-34 with 17:58 remaining on a jump shot by Robinson, and would never trail again, although USAF pulled with in five at 61-56, with 3:13 left.

Redshirt senior Tony Darden came off the bench to grab a game high 11 rebounds, along with seven points.

Coastal Carolina will play its final exhibition of the preseason on Thursday, Nov. 14 against Francis Marion University at 7 p.m. in Kimbel Arena.
