CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team has completed nearly two weeks of its preseason practices and is progressing toward the season opener next month when the Chants begin play in the final season of Kimbel Arena.
Coastal Carolina won the Big South regular season championship and set school records for both overall and conference wins. The Chanticleers earned a berth in the NIT and reached the postseason for the first time since 1993.
The Chanticleers welcome back six letterwinners from last season’s team, but also lost a total of eight players as well. Coastal fourth-year head coach Cliff Ellis, who enters the season as the 10th winningest NCAA Division I active coach, revamped his roster and welcomed five newcomers that should all provide a direct impact this season.
Many of the practices over the last two weeks have focused on helping the newcomers get acclimated to the new offensive and defensive sets in the Chanticleer playbook. Coastal has also used individual workouts geared to improve shooting and rebounding technique.
Fans will have their first chance to watch the Chanticleers in action Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. when Coastal welcomes Piedmont College to Kimbel Arena.
