CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Big South Conference today announced its men's basketball television package for the 2012-13 season and Coastal Carolina's home games against VMI on Jan. 19 and Campbell on Jan. 26 were a part of the announcement. Coastal's matchup against VMI will air live on ESPNU at 11 a.m. while its game against Campbell will be at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. The two games will be in addition to the ESPN3 game at home against Clemson on Dec. 19 that was previously released and the game at Liberty on Jan. 12 that will be aired on the Flames Sports Network.
"Anytime you are picked up for a nationally televised broadcast it is a value to both the University and the program itself," said Head Coach Cliff Ellis. "The ability to showcase the University to millions of viewers at home is something you cannot put a dollar figure on. From a recruiting standpoint it gives us an opportunity to play where people from all over the country can have an eye on Coastal Carolina. That is the biggest recruiting tool we can have."
The matchup against VMI will feature Big South Preseason Player of the Year, Stan Okoye, Preseason All-Big South First Team selection Anthony Raffa and Second Team selection Kierre Greenwood. Coastal was picked to finish second in the South Division while VMI was the No. 2 pick in the North Division.
The appearance on ESPNU is the first since the Chants defeated VMI 89-81 inside Kimbel Arena on March 3, 2011, in the Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship semifinals. Coastal holds a 16-6 record against VMI and has won eight of the last nine matchups with the Keydets.
Coastal’s game with Campbell will feature Campbell, the Big South Preseason No. 1 pick in the North Division as well as Preseason First Team picks Darren White and Trey Freeman. The Chants are 13-21 all-time against the Camels but have only played Campbell twice over the past five seasons.
The Chants now have four television games on the schedule, which is the most since the 2010-11 season when the Chants played seven televised games.
