Men's Basketball Begins Practice; Ellis to Hold Press Conference

Conway - Coastal Carolina men's basketball coach Cliff Ellis, today announced the start of practice for the 2017-18 basketball season.

The men's team will begin practice Friday, September 29 at 4 p.m. Due to a home volleyball match at the HTC Center, the practice will be held at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center.

Coach Ellis will be available for the press 30 minutes prior to the beginning of practice at 3:30 p.m. at the MBSC. Players will also be available for interviews as they arrive for the practice session.

Ellis is starting his 10th season at the helm of the Chanticleers. He has amassed a 199-129 record as head coach at CCU, meaning his first win in the 2017-18 season will give him 200 wins at CCU becoming only the second coach at CCU to win at least 200 games. Russ Bergman (1976-94) is the all-time wins leader with 306.

CCU is coming off another 20 win season, its fourth consecutive and sixth in nine seasons under Ellis. The Chanticleers finished last season in post-season action participating in the Collegiate Basketball Invitational. The Chanticleers made it all the way to the championship round where they finished with the CBI Runners-Up trophy.

The Chanticleers have two starters returning in All-Sun Belt pick Jaylen Shaw (14.3 ppg) and the team's leading rebounder, Demario Beck (10 ppg/7.9 rpg). Also returning will be sophomores Artur Labinowicz (6.5 ppg/3.9 rpg) and Amidou Bamba (4.6 ppg/3.9 rpg).

Josh Coleman, Christian Adams and Josh Peterson also return off last season's team.

The coaching staff will have four newcomers on the roster with Trevion Brown (Tacoma, Wash.) being a freshmen.

Transfers include Ajay Sanders from Winterville, N.C.; Zach Cuthnertson from New Bern, N.C. and Bill Muse from Muskogee, Oklahoma.
