CONWAY - The 2012-13 Coastal Carolina men's basketball schedule features 15 home contests including the inaugural men's basketball game inside The HTC Center. Four of CCU's non-conference opponents won 19 games or more last season while three advanced to postseason play.
"We've got a tremendous schedule and opportunity for our guys," said Head Coach Cliff Ellis. "We were able to get Clemson to come to Conway for just the second time in program history on December 19 and we open up with a top 50 program in Akron. We also will be going to Ole Miss this season and they will return the trip next season. We have a young team and it will be a strong challenge early."
The Chants open up the season at home on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. against defending Mid-American Conference regular season champion University of Akron. The Zips return 7-0 foot big man Zeke Marshall who was named one of the top-25 seniors in the nation heading into the 2012-13 season. The Zips have advanced to six-straight MAC championship games and have advanced to five consecutive postseasons, including the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and 2011.
Coastal's first road test of the season is against Southeastern Conference member Ole Miss who is coming off a trip to the NIT and a 20-14 record.
Other notable non-conference games include a trip to Tennessee Tech (Nov. 15) whom the Chanticleers faced last season in the ESPN Bracketbusters game, a home-and-home series with Boston University (Nov. 28 and Dec. 6) and a visit from Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson (Dec. 19).
With the addition of Longwood as the Big South's 12th men's basketball member forcing the conference to form two divisions and change from an 18 to 16 game league schedule, this season's first conference clash takes place on Jan. 5 at Longwood.
The Chants' first Big South home date of 2013 will be Jan. 9 when they welcome Presbyterian. Other home conference games include VMI (Jan. 19), Campbell (Jan. 26), Radford (Feb. 2), Charleston Southern (Feb. 6), Gardner-Webb (Feb. 16), UNC Asheville (Feb. 19) and Winthrop (Feb. 27).
Coastal closes out the regular season on the road against Charleston Southern on March 2.
The Big South Men's and Women's Tournament - the visitmyrtlebeach.com Basketball Championships - will be played from March 5-10 at The HTC Center.
