Basketball Signs Point Guard
Conway - Coastal Carolina head men’s basketball coach Cliff Ellis has announced the signing of Devante Jones, a point guard from New Orleans.
Jones was named team captain both his junior and senior seasons at St. Augustine High School. He averaged 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals per game.
St. Augustine finished 52-9 during his final two seasons and Jones was named First Team All-District both years.
He played for Mitchell Johnson at St. Augustine who added, “DJ, he has a huge chip on his shoulder. He’s a hard-worker who cares about his teammates and he’s a gym rat who’s a student of the game.”
Jones also played for the Elfrid Payton Elite AAU Club team, which was part of the EYBL Nike Circuit. He averaged 16 points per game, along with four rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
“Devonte is an elite class student-athlete who works hard both on and off the court,” his AAU Coach Cleavon Williams said. “He has aspirations to be the best.”
The CCU coaching staff expects Jones to be a strong addition to a solid backcourt for the next several years.
“We are excited DJ has decided to join our basketball family here at Coastal Carolina, Ellis said. “What a great addition. He is a talented guard with a very good basketball IQ and just has a great fell for the game. DJ is a competitor and a winner. I feel very confident that our backcourt is in good hands for the next four years with the addition of DJ.”
