Men's Basketball Signs Macellari to National Letter of Intent

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program has signed forward Marcus Macellari (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph's) to a National Letter of Intent, CCU Head Coach Cliff Ellis announced today. He fills the scholarship left by the departure of Bryant Wallace from the program.       “We are very excited to have Marcus join our basketball family," Ellis commented. "He is a multi-dimensional player who brings us size inside. He can step out and shoot or be physical in the post and score. He is the best passer of any big men that I have seen recruiting this year. He comes from a great high school program and he knows how to win.”   Last season, Macellari averaged 12 points, seven rebounds and 3.5 assists per game en route to Second Team All-Northern Indiana Conference honors, as well as receiving votes for All-State accolades. The Indians were 17-5 his senior season after he helped them to their conference title his junior year. Macellari is also a thrower on the track team at St. Joseph's and comes from an athletic family, as his brother Michael is a senior offensive lineman at Stanford and his sister Monica is a junior outside hitter on Pittsburgh's volleyball squad.   Macellari becomes the sixth player to sign with Coastal for the 2008-09 season, joining guards Mario Edwards (Massillon, Ohio/Washington (Chipola (Fla.) Junior College)), Dexter Moore (Bluefield, W.Va./Bluefield (Hargrave Military Academy)), Rashard McGill (Gadsden, Fla./Gadsden) and Darius Steger (Guntersville, Ala./Guntersville) and forward Samuel McLaurin (Gadsden, Fla./Gadsden) in the recruiting class.     2008 Coastal Carolina Men's Basketball Recruiting Class Name                                 Elig.      Pos.       Ht.         Hometown/High School (Previous School) Mario Edwards                  Jr.        G           6-3        Massillon, Ohio/Washington (Chipola (Fla.)
