CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men’s basketball head coach Cliff Ellis announced Thursday that Warren Gillis has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Chanticleers next season.
Gillis arrives in Conway by way of Philadelphia, Pa., where he shined as a guard at Rise Academy under head coach Vin Sparacio.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Gillis averaged 24.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season, which included scoring 31 points against nationally-ranked Findlay Prep, 29 against Brehm Prep and 27 against Brewster Academy.
“It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity to coach Warren,” Sparacio said. “He is a very hard working individual that exhibits a great deal of discipline and poise. Warren also has a very strong desire and commitment and always pushes himself to the best of his ability. He is an outstanding young man and I expect him to bring a lot of class, dignity and success to the Coastal Carolina men’s basketball program.”
“We are excited to have Warren in our program because he has the ability to do something special,” Ellis said. “He can score and defend and has the ability to play both guard positions.”
Gillis, who chose Coastal Carolina over Southern Miss, Xavier and Tulane, joins Tyler Poole and William Kirksey as members of the 2010-11 Chanticleer signing class.
