Men's Basketball Signs Lee and Nieman to National Letters-of-Intent
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s basketball program has signed James “Tre” Lee III (Hampton, Va./Bethel) and Danny Nieman (Kannapolis, N.C./Concord (Hargrave Military)) to National Letters-of-Intent, Chanticleer Head Coach Cliff Ellis announced today.
Lee, a 6-3 guard, was part of Bethel High School’s Peninsula Distict Championship team his senior season. Lee also was a McDonald’s All-American nominee in 2008. He was an All-Conference selection, averaging 10.9 points per game his junior season as the Bruins were conference and Eastern Region champions and state runners-up in 2007-08. Lee was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection his sophomore season.
“I think that Tre has unlimited potential,” Ellis said. “What I like about him is that he’s a guard that is long and that is committed to both ends of the floor. He’s a very unselfish player. He’s going to bring an impact in scoring to our basketball team. He has the ability to knock down the long-range shot and the uncanny ability to get to the hole. He’s going to be a tremendous player for us, and we’re very fortunate to have him as part of our program.”
Nieman, a 6-2 guard, played his prep year at Hargrave Military Academy, joining Chanticleer guard Dexter Moore as alums of the Chatham, Va., school. He averaged 10 points and seven assists per game at Hargrave. Nieman went to Concord High School in Concord, N.C., where he helped the Spiders to a North Carolina 3A state championship in 2006-07. He averaged 17 points and eight assists as a senior at Concord and earned an invitation to the Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic.
“Danny’s a tremendous floor general who is strong.” Ellis stated. “What I like about him is the ability to get to the hole and to run a team. He’s a guy that we’re going to look to make an immediate impact on our team with the loss of Mario Sisinni. I like his size as he is a big point guard. He’s a leader and he also can knock down the shot. He is a guy that really going to come in here and make an impact right away.
“Both of these guys will make an immediate impact with our team. I feel like these are two signees that are excellent for our program and will shore up our backcourt.”
Lee and Nieman join Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill./Martin Luther King (Kennedy-King College)) in the 2008-09 Chanticleer recruiting class.
